Wildstar is an insanely fun and addicting fresh take on one of my favorite game types: Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. Almost everyone who enjoys PC gaming has played some sort of MMORPG whether it be Runescape, World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online, and the list goes on.
However, Wildstar has a few tweaks to the core
game play, races and classes that make it a bit challenging and in my opinion wildly fun! In the past I spent countless hours playing WoW and one thing that always ticked me off being a warrior was that if I were fighting against a ranged class their auto-attacks would auto-lock and most abilities if they were cast on you were like heat seeking missiles! No matter what I did - dip dodge or roll - I could not get away from that devious frost bolt.
In Wildstar all of the abilities have a telegraphed are that it will affect and the capability to double-tap a direction to dodge that direction, meaning that it shows a field on the ground that is or will be affected or dodged. By adding this mechanic both PVP and PVE game play are changed drastically; getting kills and even landing a hit for some damage becomes less of a button-mash-fest.
Another great addition to Wildstar has to be the CM or Commodities Exchange. The CM is a godsend to those who enjoy trade skills: I am crazy for crafting but sometimes at max level the materials needed are uncommon and get very expensive when bought on the auction house. Instead of the traditional auction house the CM allows you to create a "buy order" for a price(ea) and the quantity of the material you are looking for, when someone decides they want to sell some of their accumulated materials they can create a "sell order" or they can "sell now" for priced offered on others buy orders. Since in most cases the buyers are competing instead of the sellers the prices start low and go up instead of starting at an inflated price and dwindling it's way down.
There are many new things introduced by Wildstar that affect it's game play and the future of MMORPGs as a whole. I will be talking more about Wildstar in future posts; let me know in the comments if you would like me to touch on anything specific.
